‘Nobody tried to help me’

A woman whose 2-year-old son was beaten by a beggar on a Manhattan subway train on Sunday described how she begged for help during the attack – but “nobody did anything”.

The 21-year-old mother – who asked to remain anonymous for fear of the attacker on the loose – said none of the other protectors on the C train came to her aid on Saturday when a homeless woman started punching her baby.

“Nobody tried to help me,” she told the Post. “I shouted, ‘Somebody help me, get the baby!’ Nobody did anything to help. “

The terrible incident occurred shortly after 3 pm on Frederick Douglas Boulevard and West 116th Street, after the suspect walked between the doors of a wagon and started asking passengers for money, police and police sources said.

The beggar is a man for $ 20, before passing it on to the mother, who said she was holding her son on a harness.

“Madam, can you say 6 feet away?” the boy’s mother said she asked the woman.

That was when “she stepped on my foot,” recalled the troubled woman, “and I pushed her to protect the baby.”

“She turned and started punching the baby several times,” said the mother. “She didn’t even hit me.”

The attacker fled when the train arrived at West 116th Street station, “and nobody tried to stop it”.

“There were a lot of people” on the train, observed the anguished woman. “All the seats were occupied.”

Her baby, who has asthma, suffered minor injuries to his face and ear. He’s so traumatized that “he won’t let me touch him in the face.”

The NYPD on Sunday night was still looking for the attacker, who was described by sources as a strong person in his 40s, with a tattoo on his neck and a haircut.

“I will never forget her face,” said the boy’s mother. “She looked mean.”
