No screams on roller coasters under California’s COVID-19 plan

Southern California’s theme parks are scheduled to open next month, but thrill seekers may be forced to bite their tongues while riding their favorite roller coasters.

The California Parks and Attractions Association is behind a plan that encourages motorcyclists to remain silent while flying on roller coasters to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Golden State reopening guidelines require companies to limit activities such as singing or shouting to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

According to the proposal, amusement parks like Disneyland, Universal Studios and Six Flags could open with limited capacity, and customers would be asked to keep their excitement to themselves during the rides.

“The use of facial coverage and / or changes in seat occupancy patterns will be necessary on amusement park rides to mitigate the effects of screaming,” wrote CAPA in its Responsible Reopening Plan. “In addition, on tours, guests often turn in one direction.”

According to the plan, groups would be limited to a maximum of 10 people from a maximum of three families. Indoor dining would be prohibited.
