No Man’s Sky Companions update adds pets

Latest Hello Games update for Nobody’s heaven it will allow space explorers to domesticate, train and create alien life forms like pets. They can even talk to these pets as part of the new Companions update for the game.

Nobody’s heavenEach of the new alien companions has its own personality and attributes. Players can raise their pets, as they transmit genetic and physical characteristics. Players can also exchange pets with other players. Up to six pets can be stored by default, but players can secure more storage slots by spending nanites.

The update effectively adds a Pokémon layer generated procedurally to the Hello Games spatial simulation. The best part? You can put your alien companions to work; they will mine resources, hunt other creatures, mark dangers and more. Players will have to take care of their space pets, which require food and attention. Giant pets can also be assembled.

Pets also lay eggs, which players can incubate, genetically modify and trade with others.

ANIMAL COMPANIONS

  • The creatures that were fed can now interact to access the milking, riding and adoption options.
  • Players can adopt up to six creatures at the same time. New complementary slots are available for purchase with nanites.
  • Your companions can be renamed and then personalized with a new range of accessories and decals.
  • Some accessories, like the torch or mining lasers, will be used by your companion while exploring the planet.
  • Each companion has its own personality, which will influence the way they behave and think. Some species are more likely to have certain characteristics than others, but each creature is unique.
  • The creature’s harness has a neural connection to the Exosuit, allowing the rudimentary translation of the thoughts and desires of its new companion.
  • The companions will help their owners during planetary exploration, but they have their own needs. They will need food or attention periodically to thrive.
  • Companions will need to be cared for over a long period of time to gain their trust.
  • During exploration, companions will assist their owners in a variety of ways, including: patrolling resources and buildings; dig up minerals and special items; hunt other creatures; and hazard marking.
  • In addition to acting on their own initiative, companions can receive specific instructions using the Quick Menu gestures.
  • VR players can aim directly to send their teammate to a destination.

COMPANION EGGS

  • Creatures that have been well cared for lay eggs.
  • After a short period of time, the creature’s eggs will hatch into a new creature, related to, but distinct from, the original creature.
  • Baby creatures have different proportions than adult creatures and will grow to maturity over time.
  • Players can exchange their winning teammates’ eggs with other players.
  • Creature eggs can be taken to the Egg Sequencer on board Space Anomaly.
  • The egg sequencer allows players to remix genetic material from their growing eggs to produce unique and unseen creatures.

CREATIVE IMPROVEMENTS

  • New titles related to creatures and companions have been added to the Appearance Modifier.
  • The cost of building Creature Pellets has been increased.
  • The Creature Pellet stack size has been increased.
  • Creatures no longer need advanced baits to unlock harvesting functions – any creature that has been fed can now be milked.
  • Giant creatures can now be mounted.
  • Creature locomotion animations have been improved.
  • The effects of particles emanating from the creature’s dung have been enhanced.
  • Discovered creatures now have a different shaped icon on the analysis display, to better distinguish them from undiscovered creatures.
  • Creature icons on the analysis display have been moved to improve their appearance.

UI IMPROVEMENTS

  • Players using a mouse and keyboard can now use shortcut keys to select options directly from dialogs and interactions.
  • Players using a gamepad can now use the analog sticks instead of the cursor to move between options in the dialog and interaction menus.

OPTIMIZATIONS

  • Warp and load times on PS4 have been significantly improved.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue that caused the freighter’s ‘wings’ to be hidden.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause an invalid system / base to appear in the list of teleportation destinations.
  • Fixed an issue that caused gloves to be out of focus in the appearance modifier.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause players using Windows 10 to incorrectly report a network disconnection.
  • Autowalk is now automatically canceled when the player manually moves forward or backward.
  • The creature’s Nexus feeding mission has been rebalanced to take account of changes in the domestication process.
  • Concrete base pieces now require silicate powder instead of carbon to build.
  • Fixed an issue in Galaxy Map that caused the text Distance to the core to be cut vertically, resulting in a comma that looked like a period.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause players to upload / download an excessive number of creative discoveries.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Cronus’ food to glow extremely brightly.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Orbital Exocraft Materialiser to be overly shiny.
  • Fixed an issue that caused specialized base terminals to incorrectly fit into specific large rooms.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause an increase in load times when trying to download base data from other players.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause incorrect text to appear when collecting food substances from some unusual creatures.
  • Fixed an RV issue that caused the Exosuit backpack to be invisible in the inventory if the player’s body was switched off.
  • Fixed an animation issue with the player’s weapons in VR.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause incorrect UI sizing in VR.
  • Fixed an VR issue that caused UI screens to move while the UI closed.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when taking a screenshot in Photo mode on the PC.
  • Fixed a network crash on Xbox platforms.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause very large saved files to crash while loading on PS4.

  • Fixed a number of memory-related crashes on PS5.
