Starting this week in Fifteen days, you can have Predator do Pelé’s victory dance while wielding the pick of TheGrefg’s gamepad. On Thursday, a Faze Clan track played Fifteen days with a Manchester City star while wearing Manchester City skins. The Battle Royale hit has long been known as a cross-promotional steamroller, but developer Epic Games recently took things to a whole new level.
Just this season, which started on December 2nd, Epic added:
Crossovers like these are by no means a new thing for Fortnite. The last season of the game was a mashup of several months from Marvel, there were several Star Wars– themed cosmetics, other real-world streamers added to the game include Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten, and there were even concerts (and in-game cosmetics that accompany them) with great artists like Travis Scott and Marshmello.
For me, crossovers are part of the continued appeal of Fifteen days – where else can I play as Kratos and face Iron Man? – and each new addition helps Epic build the ultimate virtual world. But crossovers also give Epic opportunities to bring in more money, which can help make up for the absence of the game on iOS. The Battle Royale hit is free to play, so each new appearance by the brand is a chance for Epic to make people pay for items from the in-game store or sell one of their seasonal battle passes.
Don’t expect crossovers to stop anytime soon. Predator just joined Fifteen days, but Epic is already causing the arrival Sarah Connor’s The exterminator franchise. This probably means that there will be a Terminator cyborg skin too – and if there is one, it means that you will be able to put the Terminator against the Predator in a fight forever. I just hope Mando doesn’t meddle.
