GREENVILLE, SC (AP) – Aliyah Boston had 27 points and 10 rebounds as South Carolina’s 7th position took advantage of a series of third quarter finals to beat Georgia’s 16th position 67-62 for the second consecutive SEC title Tournament and sixth in the last seven years.
It was a historic fight that featured the participation of two black technicians in the title game for the first time in SEC history with Dawn Staley of South Carolina and Joni Taylor of Georgia. The Gamecocks closed the third quarter with a 9-0 run and held on while Georgia attempted a late rally. The Bulldogs closed within 65-62 with 14.4 seconds remaining on Que Morrison’s 3-pointer.
But Boston hit two free kicks and South Carolina held on for the 14th consecutive victory over Georgia.
