No. 5. South Carolina postpones game due to COVID-19

The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team, ranked fifth in the country, will not play against the Georgia Lady Bulldogs on Thursday.

“After Wednesday’s results of COVID-19 tests, South Carolina women’s basketball paused all team activities until test results are received,” South Carolina announced in an official statement. “As a result of the combination of positive testing, contact tracking and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the program, Thursday’s game against Georgia has been postponed, in line with the Southeast Conference’s COVID-19 management requirements.”

No makeup date for the game had been determined until early Thursday afternoon.

Interestingly, South Carolina’s 10th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats competition remains scheduled for Sunday, although NCAA basketball guidelines recommend 14-day quarantines whenever any Level 1 person associated with a coronavirus-positive team. However, Tennessee Lady volunteers were recently released to return to activities after just six days of dealing with COVID-19 problems.

South Carolina improved to 7-1 this season with a 77-60 victory over Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday.
