No. 19 in women’s tennis trips to games in Florida, South Carolina

Gainesville, Florida. – LSU’s 19th women’s tennis team (7-0, 2-0 SEC) seems to continue its perfect start to the season by taking on the Florida Gators at the Ring Tennis Center at 4:00 pm CT on Friday, February 26 before completing the weekend at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, South Carolina, for a game against South Carolina at noon CT on Sunday, February 28.

The Matchups

LSU is looking for its third win against Florida in the program’s history, with Florida taking the win in 47 of the 49 matches over the years. When the teams met in Gainesville last year, the Tigers emerged victorious in a 4-2 contest thanks to the doubles point and the seniors’ individual wins Taylor Bridges and Eden Richardson and second year Nina Geissler.

Tigers and Gamecocks will meet at 32WL on Sunday, with South Carolina having a 25-6 lead in the series. When the teams met in Columbia last season, sophomore year Maggie Cubitt grabbed LSU’s lone point in the 4-1 defeat.
Last Time

LSU opened the conference game with a 4-3 victory in Kentucky on Saturday afternoon, before concluding the weekend with a 4-2 victory over No. 9 Vanderbilt on Monday afternoon. The victories mark the third consecutive year that the Tigers start playing in the SEC 2-0, and the victory over Vanderbilt marks the Tigers’ first victory over one of the top 10 opponents since 2017.

Geissler got off to a warm start in the singles game in the double season, opening the season with a perfect 6-0 playing in singles 4, 5 and 6 for the Tigers. Geissler is accompanied by Cubitt and freshman Samantha Buyckx in boasting a perfect singles record in dual play, with the two currently sitting 3-0 and 2-0, respectively.

The southwest tandem of Bridges and senior colleagues Paris Corley lead the team in victories in singles and doubles competitions in the general season. Corley is currently 12-2 on the team, with Bridges not far behind with 10-4. In the doubles game, the two lost only one game when paired, sitting at 8-1 when playing as a pair and both 11-3 overall in doubles action.

At Oracle-ITA Rankings, LSU moved up four places in the last team ranking, to No. 19. In individual rankings, Tigers are represented in doubles and singles. Richardson and Geissler checked in as the No. 14 doubles duo in the country, while in singles matches Bridges came in 41st place and Carrington checked in 83rd.
