LAST TIME OUT

  • No. 17 Arkansas (11-4, 2-3) bounced back at Bud Walton Arena on Thursday night, holding Florida (7-6, 0-5), 84-80.
  • Chelsea Dungee’s senior guard took over, lighting the scoring with 33 points, a new record of the season.
  • She caused a lot of damage to the free-throw line, hitting all 17 free-throw attempts, matching her career record for freebies made (17-19, Auburn, 2/2/19), which reached her own record in the program.
  • Senior redshirt Destiny Slocum continued his strong game for the Hogs on Thursday, scoring 17 points and picking up five rebounds.
  • Amber Ramirez and Makayla Daniels also scored double digits, with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Dungee scored 30+ for the tenth time in his career, and the second time this season.
  • This is the largest number of games out of over 30 in the program’s history.
  • Dungee becomes the first SEC player to hit more than 17 free throws in a game twice in his career.
  • Senior striker Taylah Thomas almost doubled up against the Gators, going for nine points and eight bags.

STORYLINES

  • No. 17 Arkansas is 2-3 over its first five games in the SEC, falling to Kentucky, Texas A&M and Tennessee, all of which are now ranked, while defeating Missouri and Florida at home.
  • Hogs dropped in polls again this week, dropping from 13 to 17 on AP Search and from 13 to 16 on Coaches Search.
  • Arkansas also dropped in NET Rankings, dropping to 24. They are now 5-4 against teams in the top 100, and beat Baylor, who is in fifth place.
  • In a year when games are precarious, Arkansas leads the country in the category, playing 15 games so far this season.
  • Razorbacks are also just one of nine teams in the country that have won 11 or more games.
  • The difficult schedule continues for the Hogs, as the team’s next two opponents, South Carolina (3) and Georgia (16), are both in the top 20 in the NET ranking.
  • Both games will also come on the road, where the Hogs are 0-2 during the conference game.
  • Chelsea Dungee is in crisis to start playing at the conference, averaging 25.8 points per game in the first five SEC competitions.
  • This mark is the second in the league, behind only the current SEC Player of the Year, Rhyne Howard.
  • Dungee has gone to over 20 in all five SEC games so far, scoring 20 against Kentucky, 25 against Missouri, 30 against Tennessee, 21 against Texas A&M and 33 against Florida.
  • His performance against Florida was truly historic – Dungee reached his own record for free throws made (17-17) and became the only SEC player to reach 17+ in several games.
  • Dungee also leads the league in three feats during the conference game, hitting 13 of them so far, and free throws made, hitting 38 of his 42 attempts.
  • Dungee has scored 30+ 10 times in his career, the highest number of 30-point games in the program’s history.
  • Her consistency in scoring the ball this season is in evidence, as she scored double digits in 18 straight games.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA

  • South Carolina has excelled in the glass this season, especially on the offensive side.
  • Gamecocks are fourth in the country in rebounds per game (52.2) and the third in rebound margin (+18.9)
  • They have recovered three of the last four opponents by at least 24 and have not been hit this season.
  • South Carolina is also fourth in the country in offensive rebounds per game (19.1), securing the SEC’s best result in 46.2% of its own missed shots, averaging 17.2 second chance points .
  • The initial backcourt of Zia Cooke and Destanni Henderson’s Gamecocks is building a substantial curriculum this season.
  • Cooke is sixth on the SEC with the team’s best of 18.8 points per game, reaching 2.3 points of 3 per game to occupy sixth place on the SEC.
  • She does this while adding 3.0 assists per game.
  • Henderson is third on the team with 12.1 points per game, including a pair of 20-point games.
  • His 5.5 assists per game are the 21st in the country (2nd in the SEC), and his ratio of 3.1 assists for turnover is 29th in the country (3rd in the SEC).
  • Second-year striker Aliyah Boston continues to show off her expanding game this season, with four double-digit rebounds, six double-digit scoring games and 1.6 blocks per game.
  • She is one of the three SEC players with a double average of the season and one of the two who are also among the top ten in the league in blocked moves.
  • She is shooting 35.7 percent in the 3-point range (5 of 14) and, in the league game, she is in seventh place in steals per game with 2.5
