NMDOH clarifies who is eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in New Mexico

The state moved from Phase 1A, which included healthcare professionals and those in assisted living facilities, to Phase 1B. However, everyone in Phase 1A can still get a vaccine if they don’t already have it.

But not everyone in Phase 1B is eligible to receive the vaccine due to supply and demand.

As of Friday, the state is prioritizing new Mexicans aged 75 and over and people with basic health problems aged 16 and over.

Essential frontline workers, who include teachers, are in Phase 1B, but will have to wait until more vaccine is available to schedule an appointment.

There is still a lot of frustration with the New Mexico Department of Health, forcing school districts to cancel vaccination campaigns specifically for school officials.

However, many of these people can still be vaccinated if they fall into another eligibility category, such as being 75 or older or having an underlying health problem.
