The state announced 609 additional cases of COVID-19 and nine new deaths from the virus on Saturday afternoon.

It was the lowest daily count since October 31, when New Mexico recorded 592 daily cases and the seven-day continuous averages were 779 cases and just over seven deaths per day.

Current moving averages, although they have declined in recent weeks, remain high, with 1,300 cases and more than 25 deaths per day.

Nora Meyers Sackett, spokesman for the Governor’s Office, said seven of the nine people whose deaths were reported on Saturday were from Bernalillo County.

Among them, six were residents of nursing homes around Albuquerque. The deceased were aged between 70 and 90 and four had underlying health problems.

The state has already recorded 2,316 deaths from the virus.

Most of the new cases came from Bernalillo County, with 125, followed by San Juan County, with 78, and Doña Ana County, with 74.

There were 749 people hospitalized with the virus across the state on Saturday.

New Mexico recorded 137,226 cases of COVID-19, of which 59,506 were designated as recovered by the Department of Health.
