The northern and central parts of New Jersey are now preparing for even more snow than originally projected as a large, prolonged northeast winter storm that is expected to hit the state from Sunday to Tuesday, possibly dropping up to 18 inches in some areas, according to the updated forecasts.

The first projections of 8 to 12 inches of snow have now jumped to 12 to 18 inches in several counties, including Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Morris, according to the National Weather Service. The first projections of 6 to 8 inches of snow have increased to 20 to 30 centimeters in Sussex and Warren counties.

Snow forecasts have fallen in parts of South Jersey, which can be hit mainly by a mixture of snow, hail and rain. STORM
