Nintendo shares new information about Bowser’s Fury mode in Super Mario 3D World

Earlier this week, Nintendo gave fans a two-minute look at the new Bowser’s Fury add-on in the Switch version of Super Mario 3D World. Since then, we’ve all wondered why Bowser is so angry.

Nintendo’s UK website has now revealed how it was actually contaminated by a “mysterious black goo” that requires Mario and his unlikely companion (Bowser Jr.) to travel across a series of islands in Lake Lapcat.

Together, they must collect the Cat Shines, control their power and stop this new “terrifying” form of Bowser.

Something bad happened to Bowser. He was contaminated by a mysterious black slime, turning him into a huge monster prone to total destruction!

It is up to Mario and an unlikely companion to travel across a series of islands in Lake Lapcat, collect the mysterious Cat Shines by completing different platform challenges and harnessing his power to stop the terrible Fury Bowser.

With his dad transformed, Bowser Jr.’s only hope for saving his father lies in his greatest enemy. Piloting his Koopa Clown Car, the young prince joins Mario on his mission, copying all his moves, helping him defeat enemies and discovering power-ups and other secrets that will help him.

Pass a Joy-Con to a friend and play in local cooperative mode, with a player taking control of the little boy directly to help him in his hunt for Cat Shines.

As you play this additional content, you need to keep an eye out for “Sun of Fury”. When the weather changes – you better be careful!

While looking up and down Cat Shines, the evil Fury Sun will slowly emerge from the lake, close to the island you are on.

When the weather suddenly changes from sunny to stormy, it’s time to move on, as Fury Bowser is almost there! As soon as he leaves the Fury Sun, he will summon sky meteors and shoot devastating fire rays at you – so take cover!

If you have collected all Cat Glows, you can face Bowser as Giga Cat Mario:

While you can expect devastation, you are not entirely helpless. If you collected five Cat Shines on an island, it’s time to activate the incredible power of Giga Bell! This gigantic Super Bell turns Mario into Giga Cat Mario, which means he can fight Fury Bowser in a truly titanic fight.

Defeat Fury Bowser in his huge cat form and he will be sent flying back into the water, unlocking new islands for you to explore. Don’t waste too much time celebrating your victory, as he will be back …

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will arrive next month, on February 12, 2021.
