Nintendo is “responding rigorously” to the demand for multiple switch consoles per home

We received some information about Nintendo’s recent financial results this week. Having published the nine-month figures for 2020 on Monday, the question-and-answer session between Nintendo President Shuntaro Furakawa and several investors was also released.

This brought a number of points of interest – namely, when can we expect to see Nintendo’s next games – and an investor believes that with almost 80 million units sold so far, the Switch could eventually outperform the Nintendo Wii’s lifetime sales by more than 101 million.

Asking what Nintendo will do to further boost Switch sales, Furukawa begins by quoting Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ success in arousing people’s interest, along with the nostalgia for the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

Going further, he also detailed the demand for several consoles within a family, confirming:

Our survey found that approximately 20% of Nintendo Switch family sales between October and December 2020 in the main regions were due to the demand for multiple systems within the same family. We intend to continue to increase our sales volume, also responding rigorously to this type of demand for multiple systems.

Although inventory has improved recently, Switch consoles were notoriously difficult to find during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, a situation that has prompted some retailers to inflate prices. It is nice to see then that Nintendo is not only aware of the demand, but will “strictly” try to meet it.

Does your home have multiple Switch consoles? Do you believe that it can outperform the Nintendo Wii? Let us know in the comments.
