Nintendo is aiming for record sales of games and consoles in the next fiscal year, thanks to a line of highly successful new games and a new Switch model.
This is according to a new report by Bloomberg, which states that the company is planning to release a new version of the Switch before the end of March 2022. This statement comes from sources in “component suppliers, software publishers and retailers”, who claim that Nintendo believes the introduction of this new console will help keep Switch console sales stable or slightly higher year on year.
There are few details about the new model, apart from the statement that it will have an OLED screen, which should provide sharper images for players. This news is just the latest in a long line of rumors for the Nintendo Switch Pro, but with the Switch now 4 years old, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see a new version of the console being released in the next 12 months.
Elsewhere in the article, it is also reported that Nintendo has a “series of outstanding game releases” that they hope will help them sell more than 250 million units during the fiscal year. This is an increase of 45 million units in its current projection of 205 million software sales for the year.
What kind of game could stimulate that big target? Well, the recent Nintendo Direct saw names like Splatoon 3, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and Mario Golf Super Rush revealed, while Pokémon Direct also brought news of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes, along with the first gameplay of Pokémon Subtitles: Arceus. Suffice it to say that Nintendo’s line already looks quite healthy for the next 12 months.
