Nintendo and Reggie Fils-Aime had to ‘politely decline’ an offer to work with Kanye West on a game

Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that he had to “politely decline” an offer to work with Kanye West on a video game concept due to the number of other projects that were currently under development at the company. by Nintendo Everything, Reggie shared the story on his Talking Games with Reggie & Harold podcast, which is raising money for the mentoring work of the non-profit New York Videogame Critics Circle, and he said the meeting took place at an “many E3″ years ago”.

Kanye visited the Nintendo booth during that E3 and could even spend time with Shigeru Miyamoto. He then requested a meeting with Reggie, and the two ended up meeting in one of Kanye’s offices in Calabasas, California.“Part of that was talking about what he was doing,” explained Reggie. “He was experiencing a piece of video game content; he wanted reactions to that. He comes in and says, ‘I want to work with Nintendo.’

“We had so many different projects going on at Nintendo that the possibility of doing something with Kanye just didn’t exist, so I had to find a way to politely refuse this opportunity to work with him. I said to him, ‘Kanye, you don’t want to work with us because we are tough, we are tough. All we do is look for the best content. We would not be the type of partner you would like to work with. ‘And he looks at me and says,’ Reggie, you’re exactly the type of partner I want for that reason! ‘ It’s like, ‘Oh my God.’ “

Reggie said that not only was the meeting “interesting”, but Kim Kardashian-West was also there. Although the project has never seen the light of day, Reggie and Nintendo felt that “Kanye has a passion for the video game space and is a creator”.Kanye’s story with the games goes beyond that meeting, when he revealed that he was working on a game called Only One, which would have players guiding his mother Donda “to the highest gates of heaven, holding her up to the light”. Although he announced the project in 2015, little news has emerged since then.
