Nikki Haley discovers that there is no middle ground with Trump

She literally said just that – in an interview with Tim Alberta from Politico recently. Here is the quote:

“I think what we need to do is take the good that he has built, leave the bad that he has done and go back to a place where we can be a good, valuable and effective part.”

It makes sense! Except there is a 0% chance that Trump – or the base he commands – will follow the plan.

Witness this Politico report on Thursday afternoon:

“Nikki Haley contacted former President Donald Trump on Wednesday to request a meeting in Mar-a-Lago, but a well-known source told Playbook that he refused. The two have not spoken since the 6 uprising. January, when Haley criticized Trump for inciting his supporters to invade the Capitol. “

See, there’s no middle ground with Trump. There is no way to align with him, but also to distance himself from ugly things – like his actions (and omissions) in the January 6 riot at the United States Capitol.

Either you are ALL IN on Trump or he sees you as all in – and therefore a fair game to be a) ignored or b) attacked. And the only way to stay all in is to fully support him in everything he says and does. No questions.

So Haley’s strategy may make sense to her (or on paper), but in the real world she will have to make a choice: are you with Trump or not?

The point: If Trump himself runs again in 2024, the fundamental question that every candidate running will have to answer is whether they will run with Trump or away from him. There is no middle ground.
