After a retro in 2016, Nike Air Griffey Max 1’s OG “Freshwater” colorway is due to return next year in celebration of the model’s 25th anniversary.
Made famous by “The Kid” Ken Griffey Jr. in 1996, the Air Griffey Max 1 was a daily version of the cross trainer style of the locks he used on the diamond. Featuring a black wavy nubuck upper with a white leather base, the shoe uses a bootie construction and a secure Nike brand strap that wraps around the ankle. Tying this pair back to Griffey’s Seattle Mariners lines are the shoe’s signature “Freshwater” aqua hits, which are accented with red.
More recently, the Air Griffey Max 1 OG “Emerald” colorway inspired a new Nike SB Dunk Mid.
As of now, no exact date has been released for this pair, but the arrival of official images of Nike products suggests that it may fall sooner or later. The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Freshwater” will be launched in early 2021.
UPDATE (01/09): Official images of the “FreshWater” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 retro have emerged and, according to the DTLR release schedule, the duo is expected to return on February 15 for $ 170.
