Nightfall is a sequel mod with many promises

Here’s a solid piece of gameplay for this upcoming Dark Souls mod: Remastered

The creator of the known Ash daughters mod for Dark Souls is back with an even bigger and bolder project, which is being done with a group, and they released an 18-minute preview of the gameplay. The project, Dark Souls: Nightfall, is a “direct sequence” that begins with a leap of faith in the Furnace of the First Flame, right where Gwyn was killed by the undead chosen in the original ending.

Nightfall promises “a new story, a new combat system, a new world map and more.”

To unravel this a little bit, the assets in this mod are not all new, but the creators and collaborators – Grimrukh, AinTunez, Meowmaritu, horkrux, Dane Brennand, wulf2k, Souv, ZullieTheWitch, Itzli and Martin Billany – are doing everything they can do Nightfall it looks distinct and fresh to the fans.

This includes story-driven game mechanics (like a crazy-looking dodge), voice NPCs, “faster” combat, enemies that have been retextured and given “heavily modified animations” and a world that is partially Lordran as we know it and partially new zones built from “existing map pieces”.

The preview footage demonstrates all of these elements. In addition to the Blistering Demon and the potential for other challenging boss fights to try and work, I am more intrigued by the time-altering properties of Gwyn’s Pendant, a “medallion containing remnants of the First Flame.” At the beginning of Nightfall, a text prompt says “twelve ashes remain”; about ten minutes later, another threatening message warns that eleven are left, and the player uses Gwyn’s pendant to go back in time.

The description of the pendant item suggests that “only the [player’s] memories and special possessions “will make the trip back, which fans have already joined. They are speculating on a time-based hook in Nightfall not different Majora mask. That would be a perfect fusion of minds, if it were true.

Nightfall does not have a release date, but you can play it with a copy of the Dark Souls: Remastered.
