There are wild and delusional claims, and then there is what Nigel Farage threw out during a Newsmax appearance on Wednesday night.
Continuing his full-fledged attack on Meghan Markle after his explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, the former Brexit Party leader told Newsmax host Greg Kelly that “no one in the world in history has done more for people of color than family British royal. “
Markle, as you may recall, told Winfrey that someone in the royal family expressed concern about the potential darkness of her unborn son’s skin, suggesting that racism was at the root of the comments. Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, also said she was thinking about suicide, but did not receive support from the palace because of her mental health problems.
“I don’t even want to downplay the importance of mental health as a problem for a moment, but neither can we have people claiming mental health problems as a way to end the debate,” said Farage at one point. “She seemed to be in control of the interview for me.”
After criticizing Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, for “destroying the UK’s reputation in the world” with his interview, Farage went on to question the couple’s allegations of racism around the palace.
“The queen and the royal family have spent the last seventy years traveling through the community,” said the politician who became an analyst. “The vast majority of these people are black and Asian.”
He continued: “I would tell you that no one in the world, in history, has done more for people of color than the British royal family.”
Apparently, from Farage’s description, the long history of brutal colonialism and slavery in the British Empire must be seen as a positive thing by people of color around the world, especially in the countries that Britain occupied.
Farage’s comments quickly went viral on social media, with observers and critics censoring the British conservative leader for apparently saying that blacks and Asians should be grateful to have been colonized and enslaved.
“Replace ‘with’ with ‘for’ and you have to. Prepositions are important! ” Jeet Heer of The Nation noted on Twitter.
