Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy found fame at a young age, and now at 28, she says she kissed goodbye in her acting career.
The “iCarly” star discussed her departure from acting on the recent episode of her podcast “Empty Inside”, which featured actress Anna Faris as a guest.
When Faris asked McCurdy if she ever considered acting as a “refuge”, McCurdy revealed that he made the decision to give up a few years ago.
“I stopped a few years ago to try to write and direct – it’s going really well,” she said with a laugh. “I stopped a few years ago because I didn’t want to do that initially. My mom put me in this when I was 6 and because of age, I think, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. It was largely the pressure of my family not having a lot of money, and that was the way out, which I really think was useful to get me to some degree of success, because I don’t think it would have been so ambitious if I didn’t know it was for my family I had to f – king do good and hit my target and hit my target. “

McCurdy said acting was “always, always, always difficult” because of the anxiety that came with it.
“Going to the auditions … I was so stressed that my heart was pounding, it was so moist, it was really a kind of nervous battle. As soon as I started to control the nerves, that was when I started to really get a little traction, but I ended up stopping after my mom passed away, because with her death a lot of her ideas for my life kind of died, and that was her own journey, and certainly difficult, “she said.
McCurdy questioned Faris about her own acting performance, and the former “mom” star explained that her interest started when her mother enrolled her in “imagination” classes. From then on, Faris started acting in community theater.
“I loved acting, but it was not so clear at all. I don’t remember saying ‘This is what I want to do,’ ”explained Faris.
JENNETTE MCCURDY SLAMS NICKELODEON
The “House Bunny” actress claimed that acting became “my identity outside of school” and considered herself lucky to have decided on her own to drop out of college. “At that point, my parents were out of my career for a long time. I can’t imagine, though, it must have been very difficult,” she said of McCurdy’s personal experience. “This is a totally different journey than the one I was on.”

Ultimately, McCurdy said he believed that acting during his transformative years hindered his ability to develop his own emotions at the time.
“For me, I kind of left my own emotions in a water bath as a child. I think it was very detrimental to my own emotional well-being because that character’s emotions were the priority. Besides, I was always playing the sad thing and tearful, “she said.
7 WORST NICKELODEON SCANDALS
McCurdy noted that she resents her previous acting career because she is not particularly proud of the roles she has played.
“My experience as an actress is, I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past,” she said. “I resent my career in many ways. I feel so dissatisfied with the roles I played and I felt like the most tacky, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was between 13 and 21 years old, and at 15, I already I was ashamed. My 15-year-old friends didn’t say, ‘Cool, you’re on this Nickelodeon show.’ It was embarrassing. And I imagine that there is a very different experience in acting if you are proud of your roles and feel fulfilled by them. “

McCurdy also mentioned the trial he received when he was young. One thing that still remains with her today is to hear a former agent describe her image as “homely”.
“My agent, I literally hear her on speakerphone say, ‘They want an ethereal beauty. Jennette is not an ethereal beauty. She is homely. She reads homely,'” said the former actress. “And I was like, OK, I think I read homemade.”
