NFL rumors: Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN reveals what the Jets could achieve with Sam Darnold’s trade

Decisions decisions.

What will New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas do with the second choice in the NFL’s 2021 Draft? He could use it to trade on the board and stock picks. Or he could use it to get attack help for quarterback Sam Darnold. Or he may decide to end the Darnold experiment and select a new quarterback from the franchise.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. was asked which team is under the most pressure in the NFL Draft. It is no surprise that he chose the Jets. And he dropped a nugget of potential news in his explanation.

They have been in the basement of AFC East for years, have another new coach and can change things quickly. They have two choices in the first round (Nos. 2 and 23), one very high choice in the second round (No. 34) and two choices in the third round (Nos. 66 and 87). This is a big draft for general manager Joe Douglas, and starts with the Sam Darnold decision. If Douglas & Co. want to stay with Darnold as a defender for another year, they need to get some weapons so they can get a more thorough assessment. If they negotiate with Darnold – they can get him a second or third round, I think – they will almost certainly catch a quarterback with choice # 2, but they still need to help him. Therefore, they need to add offensive game creators and increase the depth of defense talent. It is not easy, but they have the capital to do that – if they get their choices right.

If Douglas decides to restart QB, his main options will be Justin Fields from Ohio, Zach Wilson from BYU and Trey Lance from North Dakota.

Trevor Lawrence de Clemson, the best defender in the draft, should reach the first place for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
