NFL rumors: Jets getting calls to Sam Darnold | 3 teams to watch, insider says

Will he stay or leave?

That’s the question about New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

Choice 3 in the 2018 NFL Draft is up for grabs and could change into a uniform for the 2021 season. Albert Breer from Per SI:

The Jets received calls and did not appear to be in a hurry to transfer their 23-year-old former pilot. Nobody surprised them. … At this point, eight teams called the Jets over Darnold with varying levels of interest. … As for the teams to watch, three in particular are interesting to me: Chicago, San Francisco and Washington.

Breer reports that the Jets want to watch the Pro Days of the best quarterbacks in the NFL’s 2021 Draft before deciding on Darnold.

If the Jets discard Darnold, they will likely seek to use choice number 2 in a new quarterback in the franchise. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be No. 1 overall for the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving BYU’s Zach Wilson, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and North Dakota’s Trey Lance on the Jets’ recruitment board.

Here are your training dates, by breeder:

  • Trey Lance – March 12
  • Zach Wilson – March 26
  • Justin Fields – March 31

If the Jets are really determined to assist the best potential players, it is possible that General Manager Joe Douglas will not decide Darnold’s fate until April. The NFL’s 2021 Draft begins on Thursday, April 29.
