NFL negotiating rumors: 49ers negotiate up to third place with the Dolphins for three choices in the first round and one choice in the third round of 21

Adam Schefter reported that the San Francisco 49ers negotiated up to third place in this year’s NFL draft with the Miami Dolphins. The Niners are giving up No. 12, a winner of 22 in the third round and choices in the first round in 2022 and 2023.

Wow!

Kyle Shanahan probably feels confident in three defenders in this draft. That was my initial reaction. Furthermore, it is a lot to give up on any player. BYU’s Zach Wilson has a professional day on Friday, and John Lynch and some of the 49ers’ bosses are reportedly in Provo to assist Wilson. Schefter reported that the Jets are the favorites to land Wilson.

That would mean that the Niners are on top of Justin Fields, Trey Lance or Mac Jones. The first is the safest assumption under the circumstances, but does not rule out Lance. San Francisco has reportedly been on top of Lance throughout the recruitment process, and he is a rising star.

Switching to Jones would be comical.

That pretty much closes the door to the Jimmy Garoppolo era in San Francisco.

I am curious to know where Garoppolo lands and what the compensation is for him. Would the Niners free Jimmy? The Patriots now send only a choice of Day 3 to Garoppolo, since San Francisco has no influence?

Not so fast, as Ian Rapoport reported that the 49ers still plan to keep Jimmy G:

Do you really trade all that future capital for a new quarterback to sit on the bench? We will answer all of these questions as Shanahan and Lynch speak to the media next Monday.
