Longtime NFL.com writer and member of Around the NFL podcast Chris Wesseling passed away on Friday at the age of 46, after a battle with cancer.
Wesseling leaves his wife, Lakisha, and son Lincoln. Lakisha, who is a digital content editor at NFL.com, announced his ticket Saturday on social media:
02/05/2021: Linc won the best guardian angel. Chris passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon. I was by his side, holding his hand. Knowing that he is no longer suffering brings me some comfort, but my heart hurts a lot. I took him to the hospital on the 19th thinking that he would be hospitalized for a few days as before … not knowing it would be the last time he would be home, his cancer had spread to his lungs and other areas. “I’m stuck in a place between denial and anger. Why take such a kind and loving soul? Why? Chris made a lasting impression on anyone he met, even in his last days. A nurse gave me a letter to deliver.” to Linc the day after I took him to see Chris. I read it last night and it’s one of the most beautiful letters written by a random person who wanted Linc to know what kind of man his father was coming from a complete stranger. that Chris is in heaven looking at us. I’m going to do my better to raise Linc as I know he would like. I see it is every time I look at Linc’s face. I am so grateful to be able to keep a part of it with me. “
Chris Wesseling joined NFL Media in 2013, after previously working as a writer for NBCSports.com and as a senior editor for NFL at Rotoworld.com.
