NFL Announces Compensatory Choices for 2021 Draft

The NFL awarded compensatory draft choices to teams in the 2021 draft.

These choices are attributed to the teams that suffered the most significant losses with free agent during the off-season of 2020. This year, the NFL awarded 36 comp choices. The compensation choice formula assigns choices that have suffered the greatest net losses, so that teams that have signed several free agents have a lesser chance of receiving choices. The Cowboys top the list (shared below) with four selections as the best in the league.

A change in this year’s formula has taken place, with the NFL giving four choices to teams that have seen one of their minority members become a head coach or GM. The 49ers, Rams, Ravens and Saints were chosen in the third round this year. They will host other players from the third round in 2022. The Rams added a third round after losing the college scout director Brad Holmes (Lions GM); the Ravens lost the coach of the defenders David Culley (Texans HC); the Saints lost the assistant GM Terry Fontenot (GM Falcons). When losing the VP of the player’s staff Martin Mayhew (Washington GM) and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh (Jets HC), the 49ers will also have an additional choice in the third round in 2023.
