Next-generation Exynos SoC with AMD GPU surpasses Apple in the initial benchmark

The new Exynos 2100 chipset employed by the Galaxy S21 main series looks refreshing thanks to Samsung’s decision to abandon its custom CPU cores in favor of the ARM design. SoC is capable enough to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 solution, but one area that hasn’t fundamentally changed is the graphics chip.

The good news is that AMD and Samsung have combined forces and – as you may have heard today – the next generation of Exynos chipsets with AMD graphics may reach the consumer market sooner or later. In fact, so soon that the Korean media claims to have obtained the first 3D benchmark results for Samsung’s next mobile chipset solution with AMD technology.

Giving the Apple A14 Bionic chipset a run for its money

The mysterious Samsung chipset that is supposed to be released in 2022 does not yet have an official name, but the solution has apparently been tested using GFXBench.

It is at this point that we must highlight the fact that the rumor in question was collected and disseminated Is at home of a Korean community website, and there doesn’t seem to be any screenshots to support it. But for what it’s worth, the supposed benchmark results are very positive and the mysterious Exynos chipset powered by AMD is much more capable in 3D graphics, so much so that it beats the Apple A14 Bionic SoC:

Apple iPhone 12 Pro / A14 Bionic GFXBench results (off screen):

  • Manhattan 3.1 = 120 fps.
  • Aztec ruins (normal) = 79.9 fps.
  • Aztec ruins (high) = 30 fps.

Nameless next-generation Exynos chipset (alleged) GFXBench results:

  • Manhattan 3.1 = 181.8 fps.
  • Aztec ruins (normal) = 138.25 fps.
  • Aztec ruins (high) = 58 fps.

Again, we need to emphasize the fact that the source did not share a screenshot to support these numbers, but even if there were one, it would probably be too early to be absolutely sure of the leak’s validity.

We expect AMD’s GPU to make a big positive change in the Samsung chipset line, but we will have to wait and see if these improvements will be in line with what was shown in this leak. Either way, Apple won’t stand still and Samsung’s next-generation solution will compete with the interim solution A15 Bionic Next year.
