News and rumors from the 49ers: San Fran discussed negotiating with the Bengals

In case you missed out, the San Francisco 49ers just shook the NFL’s 2021 Draft with a deal that now places them in the top five.

In a successful negotiation with the Miami Dolphins, San Fran managed to acquire the third overall choice, where it looks like they will get a defender to eventually replace Jimmy Garoppolo.

It turns out that the 49ers actually called Cincinnati Bengals about acquiring the fifth choice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

As the choice of the Dolphins was only two positions above, it is reasonable to think that the negotiation they obtained would not have been much different from what Cincinnati was offered.

As a reminder, the 49ers sent 12th and 102nd picks in this year’s draft, along with the first round picks in 2022 and 2023 for the Dolphins in exchange for the third overall pick.

But it was not just that. Shortly after the deal was made, the Dolphins switched 12th and 123rd choice in this year’s draft, along with the newly acquired 2022 in the first round, to the Philadelphia Eagles for sixth overall choice and 156th choice.

So, with 49ers traded until the fifth choice, the Bengals are likely to receive a similar package that includes the 12th choice and at least one more future choice from the first round, as well as another or two final choices this year.

This certainly sounds like an attractive offer, but I am still in the movement of getting any of the Ja’Marr Chase / Penei Sewell / Kyle Pitts to be a home run that will take a long time to pass as it is unlikely that any of them will reach 12th choice .

Having said that, do you think the Bengali people were wise to stand their ground or should they have accepted this kind of offer? Let us know in the comments section and have a great fam weekend.
