Newbie card Tom Brady sells for $ 600,000 before the game

A sports fan profited Tom Brady a week before he competed for his seventh Super Bowl ring.

A rookie card signed by Tom Brady from 2000 was auctioned off last week for $ 555,998.

The card, from Brady’s first season with the New England Patriots in 2000, was classified as PSA Gem Mint 10 – meaning that the card is essentially in perfect condition. The sale, which took place on January 25, was made on the PWCC market and sold on eBay.

While the price of nearly $ 600,000 is impressive, the buyer – who did it anonymously – actually had to pay an extra $ 8 for shipping.

Some other notable cards have gained a high price in recent years. A novice card signed by Giannis Antetokounmpo was sold for a record $ 1.812 million in September, and a novice card signed by LeBron James went for $ 1.8 million in July. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout, however, holds the record for $ 3.93 million – which broke the previous record for a 1909 Honus Wagner card that sold for $ 3.12 million.

Brady, who was selected in the sixth round of Michigan’s 1999 draft, played only one game and made just three passes in his debut season. It was only the following year, after replacing Drew Bledsoe, that Brady took over full time with the Patriots – which ended up leading to his three league MVP awards and six Super Bowl titles.

The 43-year-old will lead the Buccaneers against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in his 10th Super Bowl appearance, just in his first year with the franchise. He shot for 4,633 yards and 40 touchdowns this season.
