New Yorkers say Cuomo should not resign, but his approval rating plummets

New Yorkers do not think Governor Andrew Cuomo should step down amid two scandals involving accusations of sexual harassment and underestimating deaths in nursing homes, but they also do not think he should run for re-election.

Fifty-nine percent of registered voters in New York think the governor should remain in office, while only 40% say he should step down, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released on Thursday.

Cuomo’s approval rating has plummeted amid the scandals, with only 45% of New Yorkers approving his performance now, compared with 72% in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although New Yorkers feel that Cuomo should remain in office, 59% say he should not run for a fourth term in 2022.
