Hey, we’re making great bagels here!
New York City is known for having a wide variety of unique foods, including pizza, cheesecake and, of course, its famous bagels. But when another state tried to claim the best bagel, New Yorkers reacted in exactly the way they might have expected.

A recent article in The New York Times stated that, despite the common belief that New York was home to the best bagels, California was actually the king. Specifically, the article stated that the best bagels can be found in Los Angeles and the bay area.

New York bagels. meanwhile, they are considered exclusive to New York City due to New York’s famous soft water, which weakens gluten and makes bagels more chewy, reports The New York Post. According to Scot Rosillo, a bagel shop owner in Brooklyn, New York bagels are also made with more love and a technique that goes back 100 years.
The news agency also spoke with Ess-a-Bagel COO Melanie Frost, who says her company sends “hundreds of bagels to California” from New York, suggesting that even Californians prefer the New York original.
“They can’t get close to a New York bagel – crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside,” said Frost. “California, continue with the avocado toast. You know that.”

Strangely, “best bagel” is not the only gastronomic title that New York City has had to defend in recent weeks. Fox News previously reported that lawmakers in Connecticut recently tried to make pizza the state’s official food, as Connecticut always claims to have the best pizza in the country.
In response to the Connecticut bill, which was introduced by Rep. Patricia Dillon of New Haven and Senator Gary Winfield, New York restaurant consultant Jason Kaplan told Fox News that when it comes to the best pizza in the country, ” it’s definitely not Connecticut. “
“New York is the capital of pizza,” said Kaplan, citing Lombardi’s, a pizzeria in Manhattan considered the first in the country, which today still serves thin-walled Neapolitan pizza.
