New York man gets COVID-19 vaccine, dies soon after: official

A man in his seventies died in Manhattan, NY, on Sunday, shortly after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state health commissioner.

The unidentified elderly patient passed out while leaving the Javits Center vaccination site, according to Dr. Howard Zucker, health commissioner for New York State.

Although security and first aid were with the man in a matter of seconds, Zucker said, the man died shortly afterwards in the hospital.

“The incident occurred approximately 25 minutes after he was vaccinated, and after the 15-minute observation period in which he had no adverse reactions or any suffering,” says a statement sent by email to Fox News. “The initial indications are that the man had no allergic reaction to the vaccine.”

It was not clear which vaccine the man received.

Zucker reiterated that recently approved vaccines are safe, which is also the largest consensus held among public health experts. The health commissioner said vaccines, wearing masks and social detachment will help to defeat the pandemic.

“I encourage all eligible New Yorkers to get vaccinated,” he said.
