New York Giants roster changes: Devonta Freeman resigned, David Sills resigned

The New York Giants announced two lineup updates on Thursday.

The Devonta Freeman lap race was dismissed.

Freeman was signed after Saquon Barkley suffered an ACL injury at the end of the season. Freeman spent six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Giants. He was twice a Pro Bowler, but was not very successful in New York, running for only 172 yards and a touchdown in five games.

He was placed in the IR after suffering ankle and hamstring injuries in November. He played for the last time in the Giants’ 7 week loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wide receiver David Sills was signed with a renegotiated contract. Sills has been activated on the Reserve / COVID-19 list, but remains on the Wounded Reserve.

Sills was set to become a free agent with exclusive rights. He looked like he was about to be an active member of the Giants’ attack after a strong summer, but a broken foot injury left him in the IR. He’s getting another chance.

While in West Virginia, Sills recorded 132 receptions for 2,097 yards and 35 touchdowns.
