New York Giants coach Joe Judge once again leaned over his connections to Alabama, reportedly hiring Russ Callaway as an offensive assistant.
Callaway spent the 2020 season as an offensive analyst at LSU. He was offensive coordinator at Samford from 2016-19, coached wide receivers at Murray State in 2013 and 2014, and spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons in Alabama as a defensive analyst. The judge was in Alabama as an assistant for special teams from 2009-2011.
Running back coach Burton Burns, offensive line manager Rob Sale, offensive assistant Jody Wright, senior defensive assistant Jeremy Pruitt, lineback coach Kevin Sherrer and special project manager Amos Jones have connections with Alabama.
This is what LSU coach Ed Orgeron said about Callaway when LSU hired him:
“Russ had a great experience at Samford, he was an excellent coordinator, he did a lot of good things,” said LSU coach Ed Orgeron during the fall. “But he is hungry. He was in big schools. I didn’t know how good he was, to be honest with you, until we caught him. And his enthusiasm is contagious. He is an excellent coach, was well taught by his father and learned well. I believe the guy is going to be a coordinator and a head coach, and it won’t be long because he’s one of those types of minds. He’s a great worker. … has a bright future ahead. “
