New York distributes record number of COVID-19 vaccines

A daily record of more than 179,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine was administered in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday.

According to the latest data, more than 2.6 million New Yorkers have received at least one dose of vaccine – or 13.4% of the state’s population.

As of 1 pm on Friday, New York’s health care delivery locations have administered 91% of the first doses administered so far, Cuomo said.

“Nearly 180,000 vaccinations in a single day are an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to ensure that eligible New Yorkers, especially those in the communities that have been hardest hit by COVID, have direct access to the vaccine,” said Cuomo in a statement.

But the governor explained that the fight against the coronavirus is not over.

“We are still in a race to keep the infection rate low and increase vaccinations. Although the rate of infection is a function of our behavior, the rate of vaccination is directly linked to the supply and, at the moment, the demand for the vaccine is still exceeding our supply, ”he said.

“We will continue to work with our federal partners and a vast vaccine distribution network to dispatch doses as soon as we receive them – with a focus on vulnerable and needy communities – and to receive vaccines as quickly and just as possible.”
