New York climate: Sunday’s snowstorm could bring a few more inches to the city, parts of the Tri-State

NEW YORK (WABC) – A winter storm alert is in effect on Sunday, as a fast-moving system will deposit seven to eighteen inches of snow in most parts of the three states, with shovels and plowing likely necessary.

WARNING: Winter storm alert in New York City, Long Island and parts of the three state area

Sunday will be cold with snow at variable rates, decreasing in the late afternoon.

The biggest snowfall is expected between 11am and 2pm

Untreated roads will be covered with snow and slippery, as seven to eighteen inches of snow accumulate in most areas, but six to eighteen inches are possible along East Long Island, which will be closer to the storm’s trail. South Jersey should expect less snow because of the milder temperatures, allowing rain to mix.

snow totals

Expect one to three inches to the north and west of the city, as these areas will be removed from much of the moisture with this storm.

A little rain and hail can initially mix well on the coast before the snow takes hold.

And keep those shovels handy next week. We may have another chance of snow or rain on Tuesday bringing icy Arctic air.
