New Year’s Eve will still rock in Times Square, even without an audience – deadline

There won’t be huge crowds, but a lot of music will still be available on New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Using a combination of television and streaming, the show will continue despite the pandemic’s restrictions on large gatherings.

Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, the co-organizers of Times Square’s New Year’s Eve, today announced that singer and songwriter Andra Day will be the headliner of the live, commercial-free webcast and TV pool.

Day will present his Grammy-nominated single Rise upas well as your music Forever Mine. Day will also continue the New Year’s Eve tradition of singing John Lennon’s song imagine just before the celebration of the launch of the ball for the countdown of the final seconds to the new year.

Event co-organizers said the official schedule for the Times Square New Year’s Eve event will feature live performances by Gloria Gaynor, Pitbull, Anitta, Jennifer Lopez, Billy Porter, Cyndi Lauper, Jimmie Allen, Machine Gun Kelly, The Waffle Crew and USO Show Troupe, as well as a series of activities and special presentations that will take place during the night.

The six-hour live webcast without commercials will begin at 6 pm Eastern Time with the lighting and launch of the New Year’s Eve ball at the top of One Times Square. The webcast will include musical performances by Andra Day, Gloria Gaynor, Anitta, Pitbull, USO Show Troupe and The Waffle Crew.

Jamestown, owner of One Times Square, home to the iconic Ball Drop Celebration, created a virtual New Year’s Eve experience. Everyone can start the festivities today and enter the virtual world of Time Square filled with games, music and art.

Then, on December 31, viewers can tune in to a live broadcast, where they can choose from several camera images to direct their own New Year’s Eve program. In addition, viewers will also have the chance to see other celebrations from around the world and hear messages from local leaders and people from dozens of cities around the world.

For 116 years, Times Square has been the center of worldwide attention on New Year’s Eve, since the owners of One Times Square began in 1904 to hold rooftop celebrations to greet the New Year. The first celebration of Ball Lowering took place in 1907, and this tradition is now a universal symbol of welcoming the New Year.

Actor and TV personality Jonathan Bennett, star of the movie Hallmark Holiday The christmas house and Mean Girls, and host of Food chainin Halloween Wars and Holiday Wars, will return to the celebration as the host of Times Square’s New Year’s Eve.

The 12º the annual webcast will cover the action and festivities in Times Square, starting with Ball Raising at 6 pm ET, plus live musical performances, hourly countdowns, backstage stories and star-studded interviews as anticipation increases towards the midnight countdown and the famous ball toss. The custom-designed inline video offers viewers a complete New Year’s Eve experience in Times Square.

All participants will remain masked at all times, except during the presentation and will comply with the distance regulations throughout the production site. In addition, all families of special guests, who are included in the production capacity limits, will be staged in their personal home security areas to ensure adequate distance from other participants.

The Times Square 2021 Webcast will begin at 6 pm ET on December 31, 2020 and end at 12:15 pm ET on January 1, 2021. The show will be broadcast live on several sites, including TimesSquareNYC.org, NewYearsEve.nyc, Livestream .com / 2021 and TimesSquareBall.net.
