Hi, it’s Jay, and I’m protecting the fort for Kim today, which means I’m going to search the trailer. I apparently chose a good week to take on that responsibility, as there were quite of good trailers to choose from – it looks like media companies are gearing up for a big year in movies and TV shows.
Let’s get straight to the point.
Black Widow
My wife and I spent the first part of this year watching the entire Marvel cinematic universe, and as we progressed, we couldn’t believe that Scarlett Johansson’s black widow didn’t have her own movie yet. As you can expect, we are very excited to see Black Widow, especially after the new trailer that came out on Saturday.
Black Widow will debut on July 9 in theaters and Disney Plus as a $ 30 Premiere Access title.
Suicide squad
Speaking of superhero movies (or, in this case, I think antiheroes), Warner Bros. launched a second trailer for Suicide squad less than a week after debuting the first. The film, directed by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is packed with a cast of stars, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport and even Sylvester Stallone as a giant CGI shark called King Shark.
Suicide squad opens in theaters and HBO Max on August 6.
Rick and Morty season 5
I’ll be completely honest here: despite Rick and Morty being a constant thing on the internet and also being something that seems totally mine, I’ve never seen a single episode and basically don’t know anything about it. But if you’re looking forward to the fifth season, an official trailer has arrived this week. The new season debuts at Adult Swim on June 20.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Star Wars: The Bad Batch is a new animated series that goes to Disney Plus. “The members of Bad Batch – a unique squad of clones that vary genetically from their brothers in the Army of Clones – each have an exceptional ability that makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew,” according to Disney. It is executive produced by Dave Filoni, who is also the executive producer The Clone Wars, Rebels, and the The Mandalorian.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch premieres on May 4 (also known as Star Wars Day).
Shadow and Bone
Shadow and Bone is a new Netflix series based on the trilogy of hit novels for young adults. “The forces of darkness conspire against orphan cartographer Alina Starkov when she unleashes extraordinary power that can change the destiny of her war-torn world,” according to a description by Netflix. I actually just bought the first book in the series at the library and I’m looking forward to reading it before Shadow and Bone’s opens on April 23.
Yasuke
Yasuke is a new Neflix anime based on the true story of a 16th century black samurai. The main character is voiced by LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Judas and the Black Messiah) and the show has a Flying Lotus soundtrack. It debuted on Netflix on April 29.
Space Jam: a new legacy
Warner Bros. premiered the first trailer for Space Jam’s long-awaited sequence on Saturday. Space Jam: a new legacy star LeBron James and the classic Looney Tunes characters, but will also include appearances by iconic Warner Bros. characters. like the Iron Giant, King Kong and even Fred Flintstone. (Warner Bros. multiverse coming, I think.)
