New stock update for PS5 and Xbox Series X brings bad news only

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are almost impossible to find now, and it looks like that won’t change anytime soon. The first month of 2021 is almost over and, although GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and others launched new stocks this month, it was not enough to satisfy demand, and this is partly because each refueling was very limited with the production lines of Sony and Microsoft fighting for parts, and because the effect the pandemic had on production lines last year still persists. According to AMD CEO Lisa Su, that will not change in 2021.

Speaking to investors during a recent earnings conference call, Su revealed not only that demand is high on the consumer side, but also on the production side, with companies competing for the same parts. As a result, AMD expects these problems to continue until at least the second half of the year.

Su does not disclose much more importantly, but this confirms that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will continue to be difficult to find until at least June, unless demand decreases, which seems unlikely at this point. And, at the moment, there is no guarantee that the supply will exceed demand in the second half of the year, but AMD looks hopeful that things can change by then.

At the moment, neither Sony nor Microsoft has spoken much about the stock situation, especially the first. The latest, Microsoft, at least recently confirmed that it does not expect any changes on this front in this financial quarter.

Obviously, adding to the problem are resellers, who are devouring inventory before consumers can, through bots that order thousands of consoles in minutes. At the moment, the reseller market is very healthy and it is very easy to find a PS5 and Xbox Series X there, but it is clear that these consoles come with inflated prices.
