The New Radicals met for the first time in 22 years during a virtual event celebrating President Joe Biden’s inauguration today (January 20).
The Los Angeles band is best known for their hit 1998 single ‘You Get What You Give’, but broke up just a few months after its release.
Appearing together on stage for the first time in more than two decades, the New Radicals participated in the Parade Across America broadcast that was broadcast shortly after President Biden took office on the United States Capitol.
“When we heard ‘You Get What You Give’ being a Biden family anthem, we promised that if Joe won, we would get together and play our little song – both in memory and in honor of the patriotic son of our new president, Beau,” vocalist Gregg Alexander said to present the performance.

Alexander went on to say that he hoped Biden would be “able to bring our country together again”, adding: “Joe, Kamala – this is for you”.
Posting the meeting live on Twitter (watch above), the Biden Inaugural Committee said: “We are honored that the New Radicals have gathered for this moment (presenting one of the [Second Gentleman] Doug Emhoff’s favorite songs!) ”
Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, chose ‘You Get What You Give’ as her song during the 2020 presidential campaign. Opening up about her personal connection to the melody, President Biden previously described it as the “theme song” ”Of his late son Beau.
“During breakfast, Beau used to make me hear what I thought was his theme song, ‘You Get What You Give’ by New Radicals,” wrote Biden in his 2018 memoirs, Promise me dad.
Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and Katy Perry are expected to perform at Celebrating America stream live later tonight. During the opening ceremony, Lady Gaga sang the US national anthem before Jennifer Lopez delivered a medley of songs.
