New radicals gather at Biden’s parade

After 22 years of sleep, the New Radicals met on Wednesday (January 20) to perform during the virtual event “Parade Across America”, in celebration of the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Of course, they played their enduring pop hit “You Get What You Give” in all the glory of the late 90s – with vocalist Gregg Alexander even shaking his signature bucket hat during the performance.

Like Alexander and co. sang the song together for the first time in more than two decades, video clips of Americans across the country holding inspirational signs – fighting for social justice, against COVID-19, for “a new normal” – added an extra dose of poignancy. The New Radicals did not give in to the other talk of the song, leaving viewers wondering which celebrities would receive praise in a 2021 update of the “Fashion photos with Beck and Hanson / Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson” line.
