New program to provide academic coach to SC students> Columbia Business Report

The SC Department of Education is launching a new program to support students who need help to engage in school during the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Carolina’s ENGAGE program will provide a personal academic trainer for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The trainer will help develop a plan for academic success, answer questions about technology and curriculum, monitor students’ progress and pace, and help promote connections with additional community programs.

“During the pandemic, the lives of many of our students and their families were affected and, understandably, many students struggled with this transition,” said SC education superintendent Molly Spearman in a press release. “ENGAGE South Carolina was designed to support these students and help ensure that they stay on track for graduation and beyond.”

The program is a partnership between the SC Department of Education and the Graduation Alliance, an organization that creates equitable learning experiences for students who would otherwise have difficulties. All public schools in South Carolina are eligible for the program, which is free for schools and families.

Families can apply for the program directly online at parentessc.graduationalliance.com.
