Lego fans, it’s time to choose your own Porsche venture. The new two-in-one kit Lego Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 Targa offers the chance to customize its classic 911 built on one of two iconic air-cooled models from the 1970s and 1980s.
The 1,458-piece kit recreates the classic of your choice (sorry, you can only choose one version to build at a time) in delicious details. It features the 911’s 2 + 2 interior with dark orange and period nougat, complete with tilting sports front seats. There is also a handbrake, gearbox and operational steering. Of course, both versions of the car have a flat-six engine where it belongs: at the back.
As with real cars, the Turbo version of the construction gets a wider rear axle, whale tail spoiler, turbocharger, intercooler and special emblems. The Lego Targa gets a wraparound rear window, Targa-specific emblems and a thick targa bar, in addition to the removable roof sections that fit under the hood.
The Targa / Turbo kit includes several exclusive blocks designed especially for the Lego 911. The final model measures 4.25 inches high, 6.3 inches wide and only 14 inches long.
Those ordering through Lego’s free VIP loyalty program can get a limited-edition Lego Porsche owners package with the car, which includes four Porsche 911 history ads rendered as Lego art prints. The package also includes a certificate of ownership and a card portfolio in a collector’s portfolio.
Lego and Porsche are collaborating on some legal programs focusing on the launch of two 911s-a-kit. First, there will be an online car meeting on February 16 at Lego.com for members of the Lego VIP program. There, Lego design master Mike Psiaki, Porsche exterior designer Fabian Schmölz and Jörg Thilow of Porsche Heritage and the Museum will talk about the story behind the new Lego combo-911 model. The speakers will also tell the story of the Porsche 911 and the evolution of its iconic design.
