New Orleans pelicans sending JJ Redick to Dallas Mavericks

The New Orleans Pelicans agreed to exchange JJ Redick for the Dallas Mavericks, avoiding a possible buying situation for the veteran point guard.

Sources told ESPN that the Pelicans sent Redick and Nicolo Melli to Dallas for strikers James Johnson and Wes Iwundu, as well as a 2021 choice in the second round.

Redick has not played since March 3 as he is suffering an injury to his right heel. After the All-Star break, Redick underwent a non-surgical procedure on the injury and has not been with the team since.

The 36-year-old is recording a career drop of 36.4% with a 3-point range this season, but much of it has to do with an exceptionally slow start. Redick hit 29.8% in the first 16 games of the season, but has shot 46.4% in the 15 games since then.

Redick has $ 13 million left in a two-year contract he signed with New Orleans in 2019.

New Orleans scoured the market for a possible deal for Redick and avoided a situation in which Redick would have made it to the takeover market by doing a last-minute deal before the deadline.

Melli, who has struggled hard to shoot the Pelicans this year, is in the final year of the contract.

Johnson is in the final year of his contract, paying him $ 15.8 million and gives Pelicans depth in the attacking court, behind Steven Adams, Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez, while Iwundu gives Pelicans another option in the wing.
