The new coach of the Miami Hurricanes defenders, Travaris Robinson, has specialized in first-rate hires (four and five stars) throughout his coaching career. Robinson has been credited with hiring three five-star and 20 four-star players over the course of his coaching career. Six of these 23 signatories were from South Florida.
Miami hurricanes have failed in several high-profile defenses in South Florida in recent years. The prevailing thought is that former Miami cornerback coach Mike Rumph was transferred to the Hurricanes football program because he was unable to sign top players in that position.
The three five-star players that Robinson received were two CBs and a defensive tackle. Vernon Hargreaves III and Teez Tabor were CBs who signed classes in 2013 and 2014 with Florida and are from Tampa and Washington DC Defensive tackle Jordan Burch was a signatory to South Carolina in 2020 from Columbia, South Carolina.
Robinson is credited with signatories from 10 different states and Washington DC The former student at Coral Park High School has hired players from as far away as Yuma, Arizona. Robinson was a graduate assistant and DB trainer for his alma mater Auburn and DB trainer in Western Kentucky, Southern Miss, Florida and Texas Tech.
For the past five years, Robinson was the defensive coordinator and DB trainer in South Carolina. Robinson lost his job with the Gamecocks after the season following the resignation of coach Will Muschamp in November. The hiring of Robinson is an upgrade for the Miami team and its recruitment.

Former Miami co-defense coordinator Ephraim Banda was credited with signing one of the two main security devices in each of the last two Hurricanes classes. Security and DT are expected to anchor Miami’s defense in 2021. Avantae Williams, who was runner-up in the 2020 security class, had to be left out in 2020 because of a medical problem.
Miami hurricanes have signed the highest rated security post in the 2021 class, James Williams. Keeping South Florida’s unrelated pair was very important for hurricanes. Miami has to start hiring similar players at CB. Hurricanes are terribly scarce in CB for the 2021 season. Miami returns just five CBs with bags in 2021.
Juniors Al Blades and DJ Ivey, sophomore Te’Cory Couch and freshmen Marcus Clarke and Isaiah Dunson are the only CBs to return on the Miami list. Three-star athlete Malik Curtis signed with Miami in the 2021 Class. Miami could add a CB through the transfer portal. Class 2022 CB will be a priority.
Robinson will work with newly promoted DeMarcus Van Dyke, who is replacing Rumph as CB manager. With the proven ability to recruit players from South Florida and the entire State of the Sun, Robinson should be able to build his recruiting success in Florida with a base in Coral Gables.
