Lannon also faces other charges, including two kidnapping charges for allegedly luring Mata and Miller to his death.
A fourth victim, Randall Apostalon, was also found dead in the vehicle. No charges were filed for Apostalon’s death, Bernalillo, New Mexico’s prosecutor’s office told CNN on Friday.
Lannon is accused in Gloucester County, New Jersey, of the murder of Michael Dabkowski, a longtime acquaintance. Lannon’s defense attorney told the court last week that Dabkowski had sexually abused Lannon.
Lannon confessed to killing 15 people in New Mexico, including Apoltalon, said a prosecutor in Gloucester County, where Lannon is currently being held. The confession was made to the police after Lannon read his rights to Miranda, officials said.
The court documents did not list a Lannon attorney in New Mexico on Friday.
In response to a request for comment on the new charges, his New Jersey public defender told CNN by email: “Everyone is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.”
Bodies found at the airport on March 5, testimonies say
A clerk at the Magistrates’ Court in Grants, New Mexico, confirmed that the case had been opened, but was unable to provide the documents to CNN on Friday.
Two victims – Mata and Miller – were found in the dismembered vehicle. His ex-wife’s body was also found, but it had not been dismembered, according to the statement.
The police say they believe Miller was beaten to death; the other victims were shot.
Investigators say Lannon was “deceitful” in several interviews before the bodies were found, and witnesses say he tried to get rid of the evidence and remove blood stains with bleach.
Lannon told investigators that he killed his ex-wife and Mata because they were in a sexual relationship. Lannon said he believed Miller had sexually exploited one of Lannon’s children.
