New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declares a state of emergency due to the winter storm. Mega vaccine sites closed Monday

TRENTON, New Jersey (WPVI) – The governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy, declared a state of emergency due to the winter storm.

The state of emergency took effect at 19:00.

Authorities are asking residents to stay off the roads.

“It’s awful! Yes, it’s not very safe out there right now,” said LaToya Taylor of Trenton.

The snow removal teams were already working hard at Ewing Township on Sunday night.

“It’s still safe to travel, but we advise if you don’t need to, don’t stay out,” said Earl Peters of Mercer County DOT.

In Trenton, roads and sidewalks were covered with snow as people headed for the Transit Center.

All NJ Transit buses, trains (except Atlantic City Rail Line), light rail and link access service will be temporarily suspended throughout the system throughout the service day on Monday, February 1, due to significant impacts expected from the snowstorm.

“Heavy snow, coastal flooding and strong winds are expected in many parts of the state,” said Governor Murphy. “The safety of residents and workers is our highest priority. Follow all climate-related guidelines and stay off the road to allow emergency personnel access.”

In Cherry Hill, Action News found some residents trying to avoid the storm by collecting some last-minute supplies.

“We will look for rock salt while we’re there,” said Walt Hoyer of Maple Shade.

Governor Murphy said all six mega-sites will be closed on Monday due to the winter storm.
All appointments will be rescheduled within one week.

The Vaccine Call Center will remain open to reschedule current appointments for the first and second doses: 855-568-0545.
