Rumors about the next model of Apple fans’ favorite compact smartphone are already in full swing, although it may take more than a year before we see one.

Analyst Ross Young posted on Twitter on April 1 – grain of salt, etc. – that the next iPhone SE will arrive in 2022 with the same 4.7 inch format as the current SE. This updated model, Young wrote, could come equipped with the sub-65G GHz variation instead of support for all bands, including ultra-fast millimeter wave spectrum. Young also mentioned having heard of a 6.1-inch model with a “drilling hole instead of a notch” that could be launched in 2023.

Part of that is in line with a previous report by Apple’s trusted analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, last month. Quoting a Kuo supply chain report, 9to5Mac reported that Kuo also expects 5G connectivity to arrive on a 2022 iPhone SE model. Kuo also said he expects a 2022 model to have a 4.7-inch design, but with an updated processor.

The most interesting of these rumors is that Apple may be planning to discard the SE format for a larger screen. It is unclear whether the SE will have the same body size with finer settings or whether Apple will increase the SE (the latter would be bad news for the little ones among us).

Being that we have apparently been over a year to get a new iPhone SE – according to reports that have a new release designed for 2022 – there is still plenty of time for SE rumors to generate hype around a newer and more powerful device. But it looks interesting.
