New COVID-19 cases still high for Georgia, South Carolina

As Georgia’s COVID-19 cases continue to rise, Richmond County added 68 cases to a total of 13,063 on Sunday.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 5,077 new cases and two new deaths, reaching 587,076 cases and 9,893 deaths. Georgia registers 42,483 hospitalizations, of which 7,466 are in an intensive care unit.

Georgia’s positive percentage is about 10.4%.

GDPH has reported the following new cases for counties in the area:

Columbia County added 34 cases to 7,475, Burke County four to 1,193, McDuffie County three to 1,015, Screven County 21 to 558, Wilkes County three to 465, Jefferson County 15 to 1,176, Jenkins County 11 to 542, Lincoln County one to 340 and Glascock County, one to 94.

No new cases have been reported for Warren and Taliaferro counties.

The death toll is 219 in Richmond County, 86 in Columbia County, 16 in Burke County, 23 in McDuffie County, 558 in Screven County, eight in Wilkes County, seven in Warren County, 38 in Jefferson County, 34 in Jenkins County , nine in Lincoln County, three in Glascock County and zero in Taliaferro County.

Hospitalizations are 895 in Richmond County, 289 in Columbia County, 109 in Burke County, 110 in McDuffie County, 51 in Screven County, 52 in Wilkes County, 32 in Warren County, 118 in Jefferson County, 75 in Jenkins County, 37 in Lincoln County, 10 in Glascock County and two in Taliaferro County.

Doctors Hospital of Augusta diagnosed three new cases and treated three new patients for a total of 513 cases and 76 inpatients, according to spokesman Kaden Jacobs.

Aiken Regional Medical Centers are treating 125 patients, a new record since the start of the pandemic, according to spokeswoman Ashlee Brewer. In the past two days, the hospital has dismissed 20 patients and admitted 27.

The Southern Department of Health and Environmental Control registered 3,952 cases and 28 deaths, for a total of 296,093 cases and 5,042 deaths. Aiken County added 174 cases and one death, reaching 8,130 and 119. Edgefield County added 45 cases, reaching 1,503, but its death toll remains at 19.
