AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Texas’ new COVID-19 cases dropped solid in total on Friday, according to the state case count.
The Texas Department of Health Services reported 3,521 new cases on Friday, 852 fewer than the day before. The addition of 53 previously unreported cases raised the state’s total pandemic to 2,739,385.
The state also reported the lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since October 10, 3,752 on Thursday, the most recent total available. The estimate of active cases dropped from 1,099 to 107,597.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University say that 158 new COVID-19 deaths reported on Friday increased the number of pandemic deaths in the state to 47,193. The researchers also said that the continuous average of new daily cases has dropped by almost 3,003 cases in the past two weeks, decreasing by about 41%.
