New CDC guidelines: Fully vaccinated can meet indoors without masks

People who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 can safely meet indoors, without masks or social distance, according to the new guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday.

During a coronavirus briefing at the White House, CDC director Rochelle Walensky explained some of the new guidelines that could signal the first step back to normal since the pandemic first settled in the United States.

“A growing body of evidence suggests that fully vaccinated people are less likely to have asymptomatic infection and potentially less likely to transmit SARS-CoV-2 to others,” said the CDC to explain the relaxation of some recommendations.

According to the new guideline, people who have been fully vaccinated – that is, two weeks have passed since receiving the final dose of the vaccine – can relax some Covid-19 precautions during private meetings, but must continue to wear a mask and keep social distance in public.

People who are fully vaccinated can now:

  • Visit with other people who are fully vaccinated inside the house, without wearing masks or physical distance.
  • Visit unvaccinated people from a single household with a low risk of serious COVID-19 disease indoors, without the use of masks or physical distance.
  • Refrain from quarantine and test after known exposure if asymptomatic.

The CDC still recommends, however, that vaccinated people avoid medium and large face-to-face meetings. And vaccinated people should still get tested if they experience symptoms of Covid-19. Traveling is still not recommended, even for those who are fully vaccinated.
